On July 26, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta opened a Sh20 billion Bidco Industrial Park in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where he made a statement that has sparked debate about his 2022 presidential endorsement.

Speaking at the event, President Kenyatta said leaders should focus on serving Kenyans rather than getting agitated about who will be the next president.

“God knows who will be elected. It is time to work,” he said, leaving many wondering if he will back his deputy, William Ruto, in the 2022 General Election.

Deputy President Ruto has been crisscrossing the country popularizing his bid, with his allies urging President Kenyatta to honor his 2013 pledge to support him.

However, President Kenyatta's statement has been seen as a stinging rebuke to Deputy President Ruto, who has been getting impatient with the President's lack of clarity on who he will support.
