On Thursday, detectives in Karen arrested a motorist who had been captured on video engaging in a violent altercation with a uniformed traffic police officer in Nairobi.
According to reports, the incident occurred after the motorist, identified as 41-year-old David Kariuki Kamurwa, had caused an accident in the Lavington area. Traffic officers had radioed ahead to their colleagues to be on the lookout for the car, registration number KCT 730Q, which was operated as a taxi through cab-hailing apps by Ms Nancy Kariuki and Mr Samuel Nyaga.
The traffic police officer spotted the car on Ngong Road next to the Nairobi Montessori Preparatory School and flagged down the driver. However, when the officer entered the vehicle, an altercation ensued after Mr Kariuki resisted arrest.
As a result, detectives confiscated the vehicle and recovered a mobile phone that had been stolen from the cop. A warrant of arrest had been issued for Mr Kariuki, and he was subsequently arrested at Gikambura within Kikuyu.
The suspect is expected to appear in court today.
