July 26, 2019 - A shocking case of domestic violence has come to light in Nairobi, with a prominent lawyer facing charges of assaulting his wife.
Boniface Apamo Akusala, a member of the Law Society of Kenya Council representing Nairobi, was arraigned in court and charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm to his wife Faith Leah Kweya.
The alleged assault occurred on June 16 at Oasis estate in South C, Nairobi, according to the prosecution.
Mr. Akusala, who was elected to the LSK post in February 2018, denied the charges when he appeared before Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Renee Kitagwa.
He was released on a police cash bail of Sh5,000 and ordered to deposit Sh100,000 or a cash bail of Sh30,000 to secure his release.
The case will be heard on October 2, 2019.
