On July 26, 2019, Ukur Yatani officially took over as the new National Treasury Cabinet Secretary in an acting capacity, marking a significant change in leadership at the ministry.
Yatani, who is also in charge of the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, was introduced to the ministry officials at the National Treasury building by Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua, alongside the new Principal Secretary, Dr. Julius Muia.
The appointments come after President Kenyatta replaced Henry Rotich and Kamau Thugge, who were charged with various corruption charges over the Sh19 billion Arror-Kimwarer dams scandal.
Yatani has stated that his focus will be on helping the government achieve the Big Four Agenda, despite the pressure to deliver results.
"There is certainly pressure at the moment. While it is still early to say what we will embark on straight away as we set out to work, implementation of the Big Four agenda remains key among what we want to accomplish," said Yatani.
