As of June 25, 2019, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has implemented new regulations for the cooking gas industry. According to the new rules, consumers who no longer wish to use a particular brand of cooking gas will be entitled to a refund for the cylinder.

The refund amounts are as follows: Sh2,170 for a 6kg cylinder and Sh3,588 for a 13kg cylinder. This comes as a result of the abolition of the cylinder exchange pool, which allowed consumers to buy Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from any dealer regardless of the brand.

EPRA has given companies six months to remit cylinders they received while the exchange pool was operational. The regulator has also warned that any cylinder exchange occurring after June 25, 2019, other than through the approved mutual exchange system, will be considered a breach of the legal notice and may result in stern measures being taken against the concerned parties.
