Three Charged with Drugging Woman in Nairobi CBD

On July 17th, 2019, a woman was drugged and robbed of Sh370,000 in Nairobi's Central Business District.

Patricia Wanjiku Warugongo, a clearing and forwarding sales agent, had just received a payment of Sh370,000 in cash from a client when she was approached by Bernard Mbatia Maina, who pretended to ask for directions.

Maina allegedly administered a stupefying drug known as benzodiazepine to Ms. Warugongo before taking her to a building near Uhuru Park, where he was joined by Harrison Nyamu Gunda and Edgar Mwandisha Mwangesha.

The three suspects stole the money and Ms. Warugongo's handbag, worth Sh2,500, which contained her personal effects and documents.

The three pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 each.

The case will be mentioned on August 7th, 2019.
