On July 25, 2019, Ukur Yatani was appointed as the Acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary, replacing Henry Rotich who faced abuse of office charges.

Speaking during his introduction to the Treasury team, Yatani emphasized the importance of implementing the Big Four agenda, which includes key areas such as manufacturing, affordable housing, healthcare, and food security.

"There is certainly pressure at the moment. While it is still early to say what we will embark on straight away as we set out to work, implementation of the Big Four agenda remains key among what we want to accomplish," Yatani said.

He called for support from the public and other stakeholders, stating that the emphasis would be on delivering projects in the Big Four agenda.

Yatani thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the appointment and pledged to soon communicate his team's plan and timelines.

Dr. Julius Monzi Muia, the Principal Secretary at the Treasury, also emphasized the importance of allocating funds to appropriate projects and preventing misappropriation.
