On November 6th, 2017, a tragic incident occurred in Embu, Kenya, that would leave a community in shock. A 39-year-old man, Bernard Njue, lost his life after being stabbed by a knife over a debt of Ksh 50.

According to Area OCPD Mark Wanjala, Njue was involved in a fight with David Muthee at Mbukori village, Embu North sub-county, after he demanded that Muthee pays him back the debt. The police boss confirmed that the two men were engaged in a verbal exchange before the fight turned physical.

"They were engaged in a verbal exchange before the fight turned physical," the police boss said.

Njue was rushed to the Embu teaching and referral hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Muthee escaped after the incident and is still at large.

The incident highlights the gravity of debt-related disputes in Kenya and the need for peaceful resolution of such conflicts.
