Tragedy Strikes Boxing World: Argentine Boxer Hugo Santillan Dies After Title Fight

On Saturday, 23-year-old Argentine boxer Hugo Santillan collapsed in the ring after his WBC Latino Silver lightweight bout with Eduardo Javier Abreu in Argentina ended in a draw.

Despite undergoing emergency surgery, Santillan died on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at a hospital.

The World Boxing Council paid tribute to Santillan, saying, "Rest in Peace, Hugo Santillan."

This tragic event comes just days after the death of Russian fighter Maxim Dadashev, who died on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, after suffering a brain injury during a fight.

Boxing promoter Kalle Sauerland described the week as "a sad, sad week for boxing."
