Kenya's Under-16 Copa Coca-Cola football national competition is set to kick off at Kisumu National Polytechnic from July 30 to August 3, with 32 teams vying for the top spot.
The competition will see the winning teams in both boy's and girl's categories represent Kenya in the second edition of the COPA Coca-Cola Africa Cup, scheduled for a later date in the year.
Defending champions St Antony High School and Moi Girls Nangili from Rift Valley and Western respectively were knocked out during the region's preliminary matches held last month.
Wiyeta Girls High School, the 2016 champions, now have an opportunity to reclaim the title and become the only team to have won the national title twice.
The competition will feature teams from across the country, including Dagoretti Mixed Secondary School from Nairobi, Njabini Girls Secondary School from Central, and Ugari Mixed Secondary School from Nyanza.
Pool 'A' in the boy's category comprises of Goseta Boys High School from Rift Valley, Koyonzo Secondary School from Western, Serani Secondary School from Coastal, and Gatamaiyu High School from Central.
Pool 'B' will feature Dagoretti High School, Agoro Sare Secondary School from Nyanza, Machakos Boys High School from Eastern, and a representative from the North Eastern Region.
As part of the competition, sponsors Coca Cola will renovate pitches in one school per region as part of their environmental behaviour change campaign.
A total of 5,400 schools registered and participated for a chance to be crowned national champions and earn a direct ticket to the Copa Coca-Cola Africa Cup.
