Light Academy Mombasa has acknowledged its Nairobi branch's superior performance in the 2018 KCSE examinations, as two students from the capital secured positions in the national top 20. Edwin Otieno Ouko ranked third with 87.289 points, while Mark Gitau placed 20th with 86.886 points.
Maika Mohamed, a representative from the Mombasa branch, stated the school would focus on improvement for future cycles. "They done well but we will recover next year," she said, noting the institution's 67 candidates included 55 who exceeded the university entry threshold.
The school's mean grade dropped to 8.42 in 2018 from 9.0 in 2017, attributed to a 140% increase in examinees. Nabil Khalid Mbarak and Kadi Tereka Sadaraka achieved the highest school scores with 79 points each, while Gilbert Rumba scored 76 points.
Students credited collaborative efforts between educators, parents, and learners. Nabil highlighted the principal's role in driving results, stating, "Our principal pushed as hard but we are now seeing the results." The 2018 cohort saw 9 A- grades and 13 B+ results, according to internal reports.
