On July 25, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed Cabinet Secretaries Amb. Monica Juma and Dr. Fred Matiang'i to work with Foreign Missions to facilitate visa issuance for Kenyans on current passports.
This directive effectively extended the deadline for travel on the new e-passport to March 1, 2020, for all Kenyans.
According to a statement by Government Spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, Kenyans can travel on their current (old blue) passports until March 1, 2020.
Applications for the new passport will continue countrywide, and Kenyans are urged to take advantage of the extension and not wait until the last minute to apply.
Originally, Kenyans with old generation passports had until September this year to change to e-passports.
