On July 20, 2019, police at Isebania customs offices arrested three suspects, including an evangelist from Tanzania, for attempting to smuggle a 45-day-old baby into the country from Kenya.
The suspects, Lucresa Magabi, Jackson Onchari, and Dorcas Nyanchora, were later charged at Kehancha Law Courts in Migori County on July 22, 2019.
According to court records, the main suspect, Lucresa, claimed that the baby was sold to her by the woman in Nairobi because she could not take care of the baby.
However, the woman was arrested on July 25, 2019, after police investigated the case further.
The baby will be cared for at the Gentle Shepherd children's home in Mabera.
Principal Magistrate Linus Mesa of Kehancha court granted investigators seven days to complete their investigations, with the case set to be mentioned on July 29, 2019.
