On July 25, 2019, a letter was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) by the lawyer of Perry Mansukh Kanasagara, the owner of the Solai Dam, requesting an out-of-court settlement in the case where 48 people died.
The letter, written by Boniface Masinde, was received by the DPP's office and is pending at the Naivasha Law Courts. The case involves Mansukh, his farm manager Vinoj Jaya Kumar, and seven other suspects who are charged with 48 counts of manslaughter and one count of failing to prepare an environmental impact assessment report.
According to State Counsel Catherine Mwaniki, the DPP's office is ready to listen to the accused before making a decision. The court has set aside four days for the case to be heard, with two protected witnesses set to testify.
During the hearing, the magistrate granted an application from the accused lawyers seeking that they report to the offices of the DCI once every month. The court also ordered that Mansukh and one of the other accused, Johnson Njuguna, be handed back their passports to travel out of the country.
