On July 25, 2019, Kisumu County Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and his sister Risper Nyong'o faced the consequences of disobeying a court order in a family property dispute.

The court had issued the order in a case filed by Nyong'o's nephews, Geoffrey Omondi and Kenneth Odhiambo, who claimed that the siblings had failed to include their families in the list of beneficiaries in their late father's multi-million estate.

The estate, valued at Sh200 million, was at the center of the dispute.

When Nyong'o and his sister failed to appear before the court on May 23rd, they were found in contempt and slapped with a Sh. 400,000 fine.

However, they failed to pay the fine, leading to a one-month civil jail term for both of them.
