On July 25, 2019, a Nairobi man claiming to be a pastor was arraigned for allegedly obtaining Ksh.148,000 by false pretense.

The accused, Anthony Mutua Mwangangi, was accused of deceiving two people that he could secure a job for them in Kuwait.

Trading as Manpower recruiting agency, Mutua allegedly obtained Ksh.117,000 from Ibrahim Yakub by falsely pretending he was in a position to secure him a job placement as a driver in Kuwait, a fact he knew to be false.

He also faced a second count where he is purported to have obtained Ksh.31,000 from Hadija Musa Mohammed by falsely pretending to be in a position to secure her a job placement as a security guard in Kuwait, a fact he knew to be false.

Mutua pleaded not guilty to the charges, claiming he is a pastor who is anointed by God and as such is not capable of such deceitful behavior.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000. The case will be heard on September 6, 2019.
