Published on July 25, 2019, Francis Kimanzi, the assistant coach of Harambee Stars, has stepped down as the head coach of Mathare United to focus on his national team roles.
Having been with the Slum Boys since 2015, Kimanzi led the team to the Kenyan Premier League title in 2008 during his first stint as head coach.
Mathare United has announced that Kimanzi's position will be taken by his assistant, Salim Ali, who is also a former head coach of the club.
Ali has been serving as assistant coach for the last four seasons and has been promoted to the position of head coach following Kimanzi's resignation.
Mathare United is currently facing serious financial challenges, including unpaid player salaries, which may lead to the loss of key players to rival clubs.
Already, Cliff Nyakeya has exited the club to join Egyptian side FC Masr.
