On July 25, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Ukur Yatani as the new Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, replacing Henry Rotich who was arrested on Monday on abuse of office allegations.

Yatani, who is also the Labour CS, took over alongside his Principal Secretary Julius Muia, who headed the defunct National Economic and Social Council and the Vision 2030.

Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua introduced the two to the staff on Thursday, a day after they were appointed to the positions.

Yatani has stated that he will focus largely on the Big 4 Agenda and will soon come up with the work strategy and set timelines.

He also assured that the limited resources will be 'deployed in the right manner and never misappropriated.'
