On July 25, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made significant changes to the Treasury ministry, appointing Ukur Yatani as the new Cabinet Secretary.
Yatani, who was previously the Labour Cabinet Secretary, took over the position after Henry Rotich's arrest on July 22, 2019, on allegations of abuse of office.
Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua introduced Yatani to the Treasury staff on July 25, 2019, a day after his appointment.
Yatani's appointment came as part of a mini-reshuffle, which also saw the firing of Treasury Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, who was arraigned together with CS Rotich over the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal and freed on bail.
Dr. Julius Monzi Muia, who headed the defunct National Economic and Social Council and the Vision 2030, was appointed as the new Treasury Principal Secretary.
Yatani has stated that he will focus on the Big 4 Agenda and will soon come up with a work strategy and set timelines.
