On July 25, 2019, Kapsiret MP Oscar Sudi, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for Deputy President William Ruto, made a startling claim: the political friendship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto is a bluff.

According to Sudi, Uhuru is unable to lead the country effectively, and the relationship between the President and his Deputy is strained. Sudi alleged that Uhuru and Ruto's claims of a cordial bond are fake and a blatant lie.

“The relationship between the President and his Deputy is like that of a man and a woman who are married, but sleeping in different houses – an indication that the union is over. Kenyans should not be cheated into believing they are still in good terms,” Sudi said in a press conference held at his home in Eldoret.

Sudi claimed that Ruto knows he no longer has the respect of the Jubilee administration or the ear of the President. He also alleged that Uhuru has started turning against his own friends and supporters in Jubilee, using state entities to sacrifice them in the name of fighting corruption.

“Within three months, I can do better. I will get a deputy like Moses Kuria and we will perform better,” Sudi said, suggesting that he would make a better interim President if Uhuru were to step down.
