On July 25, 2019, the Nakuru County Assembly adopted a policy to absorb fresh diploma and degree graduates as interns in the county government with a Sh15,000 monthly stipend.

The Internship Policy was tabled in the House by Labour, Gender and Youth Committee chairperson Daniel Githengi and adopted yesterday.

According to Githengi, the interns will be paid the stipend by the National Industrial Training Institute (NITA). In the event that NITA fails to pay, the host department will still pay the stipend of not less than Sh15,000.

Eligibility for the opportunities will be limited to unemployed Kenyan graduates who have no work experience and shall only be undertaken once after graduation for a period of between three and twelve months or as per the duration prescribed by the body regulating the profession.

The selection criteria will adhere to merit, gender consideration, ethnic representation, disability status, minority, and marginalized guidelines.

Additionally, the interns will be required to have a personal accident insurance cover and a medical cover by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) or any other reputable medical insurance firm during the period of engagement.
