On July 25, 2019, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport made a significant seizure of two kilograms of bhang. The contraband was cleverly disguised in soap-like packaging in an attempt to evade detection.

However, the airport's sniffer dogs raised the alarm, and the bhang was subsequently confiscated. At this point, no arrests have been made, and officials suspect that the bhang may have originated from Nakuru County.

This recent seizure is part of a larger trend of increased bhang trafficking in urban areas. In the past six days, police have impounded 1000kg of bhang from a tanker in Nakuru, and 8 million shillings worth of bhang was seized in a tanker en route to Kasarani from Moyale town.

As the use of bhang in urban areas continues to rise, officials believe that those arrested in previous cases are merely pawns in a larger game, with the real masterminds behind the bhang trade still at large.
