On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, one of the busiest days of the summer holiday period, air traffic from Amsterdam Schiphol airport was severely disrupted due to an outage at the airport's main fuel supplier.

A fault in the systems of Aircraft Fuel Supply, a third-party company responsible for the supply of fuel to aircraft, resulted in at least 50 planes being unable to depart as they were unable to receive the fuel they needed.

According to a Schiphol spokeswoman, only planes that still had enough fuel in their tanks upon arrival in Amsterdam were able to take off.

‘Aircraft Fuel Supply are working hard to find a solution, but as yet it is unclear how long this will take’, she added.

Amsterdam Schiphol airport, Europe's third-largest airport in terms of passengers per year, was severely impacted by the outage, causing significant disruptions to air traffic.
