Real-estate professionals in Kenya are advocating for a national symposium to clarify the private sector's role in the government-led affordable housing initiative. The Kenya Realtors Professionals Association (KPRL) emphasized the need for collaboration between construction material suppliers, local experts, and policymakers to create sustainable low-cost housing solutions.
During a 2018 national convention, KPRL executive director Peter Wairegi stated that the government should provide land for construction and support the development of social amenities. He also highlighted the importance of county governments accelerating spatial planning to ensure the project's nationwide implementation aligns with sustainability goals.
Wairegi further argued that equitable credit access is critical for Kenyans to participate in the housing scheme through a tenant-purchase model. The association's recommendations aim to balance public and private responsibilities in addressing the country's housing deficit.
