On July 24, 2019, Sirisia MP John Waluke sparked controversy with his remarks against the Luo community during an attack on Raphael Tuju in Parliament.

Waluke's comments, which were captured in a video that circulated on social media, accused Tuju of bringing conflict in the ruling Jubilee party 'the way people from his community like to do.'

However, in a press conference held on Tuesday, Waluke expressed 'regret' over his remarks and apologized to Tuju and Raila Odinga.

'I never meant bad to the community. I think it was a slip of the tongue when I mentioned the word Luo came in…so I’m very sorry about that,' Waluke said.

Waluke also apologized to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and assured the cohesion team that he will never repeat the statement again.

He further noted that he would call Tuju to settle the matter and book an appointment to meet and resolve the issue.
