Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen's political future may be at risk due to recommendations made by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the NYS scandal.
Murkomen was implicated in the scandal by former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru during her testimony before the PAC. Waiguru also mentioned Deputy President William Ruto's aide, Farouk Kibet, as another beneficiary of the loot.
The PAC has compiled a report on the scandal, recommending that individuals implicated in the scandal be barred from running for elective posts in the August 8 General Elections. Both Murkomen and Waiguru have announced plans to run for office, with Murkomen defending his seat and Waiguru seeking to become Kirinyaga county governor.
However, PAC members have yet to agree on adopting the recommendations. There are reports of disagreements within the committee, with some members allegedly attempting to water down the recommendations to give those implicated a chance to run.
PAC Chairman Nicholas Gumbo has dismissed claims of interference as 'wild imaginations,' according to the Standard.
