President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly rebuked Senator Mike Sonko during Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, after Sonko allegedly hired goons to disrupt Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero's speech.
The goons, who appeared intoxicated, chanted "Kidero Must Go" in front of the President and other dignitaries. However, President Kenyatta intervened, telling Sonko: "Sonko acha, Kidero is still the Governor whether you like it or not, wait for him to finish his term and you will go back to the ballot."
Aftermath ¶
Following the incident, Senator Sonko was seen leaving the podium, seemingly covered in shame and deep in thought. Unlike previous national events, Sonko avoided photo opportunities with the President.
