Aisha Nabukeera, who suffered severe burns at the age of 13, is now a contestant in the Miss Uganda beauty pageant. Her journey to recovery and pursuit of the crown has surprised many.
In 2006, after the incident, several Ugandan celebrities, including Jose Chameleone and Juliana Kanyamozi, organized a charity concert to raise funds for her medical expenses. Frank Gashumba also stepped forward to care for her and reportedly encouraged her to participate in the pageant.
According to sources from Uganda, Aisha impressed the judges at the preliminaries of the Miss Uganda contest, held at Club Guvnor, with her intelligence and confidence. One judge noted that her past scars would not hinder her chances of winning the competition.
The grand finale of the Miss Uganda pageant is scheduled to take place on July 10th in Kampala, where Aisha will be one of the 21 finalists.
