Willy Paul, the 2013 and previous consecutive years Groove Awards Male Gospel Artist of the Year winner, and Bahati, singer famed for 'Mama', reportedly had a dispute at the Tribeka club in Nairobi.
Incident at Tribeka Club ¶
The incident occurred during a weekly show hosted by Willy M Tuva, where both artists were scheduled to perform. According to a reveler who witnessed the argument, Willy Paul and Bahati disagreed over the performance order. Willy Paul was initially set to perform first, followed by DK and then Bahati. However, Willy Paul allegedly felt superior and suggested that Bahati and DK should perform before him.
Bahati insisted that he was the most prominent artist at the time and refused to perform ahead of Willy Paul, whom he referred to as 'zilizopendwa'. The verbal exchange escalated into a near physical fight, which was intervened by Willy Tuva.
Background ¶
Willy Paul had recently returned from the US, bringing back an accent and a new attitude. The incident highlighted the tension between the two gospel artists, despite their denials of any rift.
