Grace Muthoni Mburu, a Nakuru woman whose struggle with diabetes drew widespread sympathy, has died.
She passed away with her husband, James Mburu, by her side.
Since 2013, Mrs. Mburu had been suffering from cerebral hypoxia due to diabetes complications. Her condition worsened during her fifth month of pregnancy, leading to the termination of the pregnancy to save her life.
As a result of her condition, Mrs. Mburu was blind, deaf, had lost her memory, and relied on an NG-tube for feeding.

The couple's plight gained national attention about two years ago when Mr. Mburu shared their story on television, highlighting the challenges they faced.
In the interview, Mr. Mburu explained that he had lost his job as a cook at Ndege Secondary school to care for his ailing wife, while she had to close her tailoring shop.
I was a cook at Ndege Secondary school and she was a tailor and had a shop. We had to close all our businesses so that I could take care of her.
My wife is now dumb and cannot handle any household chores. The situation worsened last October (2015) after she had a miscarriage in the fifth month. She then lost her senses.
In April last year, the Sonko Rescue Team provided assistance, helping ensure that Mrs. Mburu attended her doctor's appointments.
According to Ndungu Nyoro, who announced her passing on Facebook, Mrs. Mburu showed signs of recovery until her death.
