President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration has pledged to rebuild National Youth Service (NYS) projects in Kibera that were destroyed.
A statement from the President's office, through Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, announced plans to rebuild the projects, including a clinic, that were burnt down during protests against Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.
Esipisu stated that the government would not allow individuals who thrive on the poverty of Kibera residents to hold the country hostage with violent behavior. He added that rebuilding the destroyed projects would be a way to counter such actions.
According to Esipisu,
"There are leaders with a history of violence and who thrive on the problems affecting poor Kenyans, but we won’t allow them to hold us hostage. We will rebuild whatever was destroyed in Kibera to shame the devil."

The destruction of the NYS projects occurred during protests allegedly involving supporters of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with reports suggesting the aim was to prevent Waiguru from gaining attention in the area.
