On July 24, 2019, a Nairobi court delivered a ruling that upheld orders barring Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal from accessing his office.

The court, led by Justice Mumbi Ngugi, considered the public interest and the need to prevent interference with the prosecution of corruption charges against the governor.

According to the judgement, Governor Lenolkulal was charged with the offence of abuse of office, enriching himself at the expense of the people of Samburu County.

Justice Ngugi questioned whether it would serve the public interest for the governor to return to office and oversee the finances of the county, given the corruption charges against him.

She also pointed out that directing the governor not to access his office would not hinder the prosecution of the case, as the deputy governor could act as a substitute.

As a result, the court declined to exercise its powers of revision over the decision of the trial court in the matter.
