Published on July 24, 2019, a woman has taken her former employer to a Nairobi court seeking Ksh.4,800,000 compensation for alleged wrongful dismissal.
Nancy Wanjiku Kamau, a former Head of Sales at Kevian Kenya Limited, was terminated on April 12, 2019, after serving the company since June 7, 2018, with a Ksh.400,000 monthly gross salary.
Ms. Kamau claims that she was placed on a six-month probation after which she served on a permanent basis until her termination, and that she was never guilty of gross misconduct or inefficiency in performing her duties.
According to court papers, the company's Managing Director stated in a termination letter that Ms. Kamau's 'results were unsatisfactory', but Ms. Kamau disputes this, saying she worked diligently and was dedicated to her job.
She is therefore seeking Ksh.4,800,000 for wrongful dismissal, claiming that the process was un-procedural, unjustifiable, irregular, and tainted with illegality.
