Last week, renowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi sparked controversy on social media when he insulted members of the Luo Community.

Ngunyi had posted: "Raila should be put on TRIAL. The JUDGE: poverty stricken LUOs. And LUHYAs craving his bondage. CHARGE: selfishness, selfishness, selfishness." His comments drew mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many accusing him of spreading hate speech.

Although Ngunyi has since apologized to the Luo Community, they have set several conditions for accepting his apology. Popular blogger Robert Alai outlined these demands on social media:

  • A letter of registration as a life member of ODM.
  • A cheque for an amount determined by the Luo Council of Elders, which will go towards funeral arrangements for Ker Riaga Ogallo.
  • Three packets of sugar from Mumias, Chemelil, and South Nyanza Sugar Company.
  • 40 sacks of omena to be distributed to impoverished individuals in Murang'a.
  • 7 Gor Mahia jerseys, including one with 'Mutahi Ngunyi' printed on it.
  • A portrait of Raila Amolo Odinga.
  • A new theory that distances itself from the 'tyranny of numbers' concept.
  • An acknowledgement that poverty is not unique to any ethnic community.
  • An assurance that lessons learned will not be forgotten.
  • An expression of commitment to peace.

The outcome of these demands and how Mutahi Ngunyi responds remains to be seen.
