On July 24, 2019, a fatal shooting incident shook Meru County, leaving two aides of Meru County Speaker Joseph Kaberia injured. The incident involved Andrew Nabea, the driver, and Samuel Munga, the speaker's bodyguard.

According to police, the shooting occurred outside the gate of the speaker's residence, where Sarah Karambu, the woman who raised the alarm, was walking towards the gate after receiving a call from her brother. However, it has since emerged that Karambu is actually Nabea's sister-in-law, having been married to his ex-wife, Irene Mukuba, a former MCA in Meru.

Both Karambu and Mukuba were tight-lipped about their relationship to Nabea, with Karambu stating, 'If he is my brother-in-law, where is the problem? I am not commenting,' and Mukuba excusing herself, saying she did not wish to comment on a matter under police investigation.

The police investigation is ongoing, with homicide officers taking over from Kasarani Police Station detectives. Nairobi County Investigations Officer Bernard Nyakakwa confirmed the development, stating that they were undertaking a thorough investigation into the incident.
