A US jury has ruled that pop stars Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams must pay over $7 million in damages to Marvin Gaye's family. The jury found that the duo copied parts of Gaye's 1977 song 'Got to Give It Up' when writing their 2013 hit 'Blurred Lines'.
An eight-member panel in California made the decision after deliberating since the previous week. They concluded that Thicke and Williams lifted elements from Gaye's music.
Nona Gaye, Marvin Gaye's daughter, expressed her emotions about the verdict, stating, 'I'm so filled with emotion that it's hard to get the words out.' She described the outcome as a 'miracle'.
Nona explained that the family pursued legal action because her father could not take action himself, saying, 'because he (Marvin) can't do it for himself.'
