Safaricom, the most profitable firm in East and Central Africa, has faced financial losses due to individuals buying data bundles in bulk and reselling them.

This practice led to a decline in Safaricom's data subscriptions while increasing internet bandwidth usage on their network.

In response, Safaricom initially capped the number of times an individual could share data, but this measure proved ineffective. The company, led by Bob Collymore, has now taken more drastic measures to address the issue.
