On July 24, 2019, a tragic accident occurred in Chebisom, along the Kericho-Kipchimchim, Ainamoi road, when a speeding vehicle struck and killed a 7-year-old pupil from Progressive Chepchep Academy.

The deceased's 11-year-old brother suffered a leg fracture and was rushed to the Kericho County Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Two adults, who were also pedestrians, suffered various injuries and were admitted to the same hospital.

According to eyewitness Irene Koskei, the pupils were walking ahead of her when the driver of the vehicle knocked them down and then rammed into a nearby agro-chemist shop.

"The accident happened so fast I couldn't even manage to grab and pull the children out. One of them died on the spot while the other was rushed to the hospital," Koskei said.

Angry residents descended on the driver, who was allegedly drunk, and were only rescued by the police, who then placed him under arrest.
