On July 24, 2019, a heated dispute erupted in Nyeri County, Kenya, between local leaders and supporters of Deputy President William Ruto.

The row began when a group of county assembly members accused Nyeri MP Wambugu Ngunjiri of neglecting his constituency, sparking a violent confrontation between their supporters.

Chaos broke out at the launch of the Nyeri Main Transport Terminus in Asian Quarters when one MCA, who supports Ruto's presidential ambitions, was shouted down and physically attacked.

It took the intervention of local police to calm the situation, highlighting the deep divisions within the community over Ruto's presidential bid.

Despite the tensions, MCA's from wards in Nyeri County have vowed to support Ruto, while Ngunjiri remains adamant that the people of Nyeri do not owe Ruto a thing and will not guarantee his region's votes.
