Governor Alfred Mutua of Machakos County has given striking doctors a one-day ultimatum to resume duty, threatening to sack those who fail to comply and replace them with doctors from India, Uganda, Egypt, and Tanzania.
According to the governor, the process of importing foreign doctors has already begun, and these medics will replace the striking doctors who refuse to return to work.
Governor Mutua made these statements a day after the government canceled its offer to increase doctors' salaries. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "I have told striking doctors that the curse of patients who died because they are on strike will be on their heads forever."
The ultimatum given to the striking doctors expired on Thursday, after which their replacement would be contracted.
