The Mombasa county government is facing a financial crisis after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) froze its bank accounts over tax arrears amounting to Sh173 million.

According to a report, Kenya Power has also disconnected power supply to county offices, including Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s office, due to a Sh15 million unpaid bill.

A letter from KRA, as seen by People Daily, states that the county had failed to remit taxes deducted from suppliers and employees. However, County Secretary Francis Thoya announced plans to challenge the move in court.
