Alice Wambui Nganga, the Thika Town MP, and her associate Daniel Barasa, General Manager of the National Irrigation Board, have been linked to apartments on LR/209/376/11 at Hurlingham Shopping Center.
According to reports, Barasa used his relationship with Nganga to influence the renewal of his contract at the National Irrigation Board. The two later got married, and Nganga allegedly pushed to have her husband spared from implication in any parliamentary report.
Evidence of Misconduct ¶
The National Irrigation Board received complaints of misconduct, procurement, and financial mismanagement, leading to the dismissal of Barasa, Deputy General Manager Mary Chomber, and Procurement and Supplies Manager Boaz Akello.
Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture members had received information that Barasa used his connection with Nganga to reach President Uhuru Kenyatta's PA Jomo Gecaga and Chief of Staff Joseph Kinyua to have his contract renewed.
Nganga's firms have been awarded multi-million shilling tenders at the National Irrigation Board, raising concerns about conflict of interest. The Galana-Kulalu Irrigation Scheme, a Jubilee flagship project, has been marred by allegations of corruption, with KSh. 7.5 billion reportedly misused.
Call for Action ¶
Questions have been raised about why Ethics and Anti-Corruption Officials have not taken action against Barasa and Nganga, despite evidence of wrongdoing. There are calls for Halakhe Waqo to be held accountable for his role in the corruption saga.
