Approximately 10,000 public university lecturers may not receive their February salaries due to a directive from Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i to Vice Chancellors.

This development comes as the university lecturers continue their strike, with recent actions including a procession from the University of Nairobi to the Deputy President's office to express their dissatisfaction.

The decision by Dr. Matiang'i also introduces a new element into the negotiations, which he has stated will be led by faith-based organizations.

The recovered account cited reporting by Mediamax.
