Published on July 24, 2019, Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi has been at the center of a controversy surrounding its breast milk donation policy.
The hospital's administrator, Geoffrey Mosiria, explained in an interview that they are still in the piloting stage and are not accepting breast milk donations from outside mothers.
However, breastfeeding mothers like Marlene Ada are finding it difficult to handle their excess breast milk. Marlene expressed her frustration, saying, 'My clothes get soaked with milk, I have to pump it out every time. I mean, these people should allow us to donate from outside and help a mother or a newborn who is in need of the milk.'
Despite the hospital's claims of receiving enough milk for their newborn unit, the policy has sparked concerns among breastfeeding mothers who are eager to donate their excess milk to those in need.
