A 40-year-old man, Richard Omoke, was severely injured after being found in a compromising position with the wife of his close friend, Vincent Gwaro, in Matongo village, Kisii County.
According to Marani OCPD Benjamin Kimwele, Mr. Gwaro attacked Mr. Omoke with a machete, chopping off his left hand and inflicting multiple stab wounds.
The incident occurred on Thursday night when Mr. Gwaro, who was attending a night vigil for a funeral, received information that his wife, Daisy, was seen at a hotel in the vicinity.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Mr. Gwaro found his wife with Mr. Omoke on a mattress on the floor and attacked him.
Notably, Mr. Gwaro is the owner of the building where the incident took place, and Mr. Omoke was once his tenant, running a hotel in the same premises.
Area Chief John Motobwa stated that Mr. Gwaro had informed his neighbors about finding his wife with Mr. Omoke and subsequently assaulting him.
A local resident, Chrisantus Asanyo, reported that Mr. Gwaro summoned them to the scene, where they found Mr. Omoke bleeding and calling out Mr. Gwaro's name.
Mr. Omoke's left hand was chopped off, and his wife was nowhere to be found. Mr. Gwaro also fled the scene after informing the residents.
Investigations into the incident have been launched, and police are searching for the Gwaros for questioning.
Mr. Omoke was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Tenwek Mission Hospital for treatment. His severed hand is being preserved at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
