Four of the nine most wanted Al Shabaab terrorists in Kenya were killed by the General Service Unit's (GSU) elite Recce Unit in an operation lasting under 10 minutes.
The terrorists, including Suleiman Mohammed Awadh, who had a KES 2 million bounty on his head, were gunned down in Malindi during a 2:30 am raid on their hideout.
The Recce Unit officers were met with a grenade and indiscriminate gunfire from the terrorists. However, the officers overpowered them, killing four on the spot. Other terrorists escaped with severe gunshot wounds, while none of the Recce officers were hurt or killed.
A report by The Kenyan DAILY POST indicates that the terrorists were aware they were being pursued, suggesting a potential leak of information from within the security forces.
The police recovered five hand grenades, a Beretta pistol with nine rounds of ammunition, phones with several SIM cards, and ID cards from the scene.
