President Uhuru Kenyatta met with CORD MPs, Senators, Governors, and MCAs from the Coast region on Saturday, treating them to lunch at a local restaurant in Mombasa.

Efforts to Win Over Opposition Leaders

According to the original account, Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, have been attempting to win over former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s supporters, including MPs and Senators. This latest move is seen as part of their efforts to lure opposition leaders to join the Jubilee party and oppose Raila Odinga’s plans for a referendum.

During the meeting, Uhuru Kenyatta mingled with the CORD politicians and had lunch with them at Baraka Restaurant, near Fort Jesus in Old Town Mombasa. This gesture was seen as a rare display of humility by the President, who chose to eat at a local hotel instead of the State House in Mombasa or a five-star hotel.

One of the CORD MPs reportedly commented on the President’s actions, stating that they had never seen Raila Odinga show similar humility and that Kenyans should be grateful that Uhuru Kenyatta won the election, describing him as a servant leader.
