Former ruling party KANU is set to reactivate its network in an effort to form the next government in 2017.
KANU Secretary General, Nick Salat, outlined the plan, stating that they aim to win over 60 parliamentary seats in the 2017 General Election. This would make KANU a party with a significant number of seats in Parliament and potentially secure the position of Leader of Majority.
The move is expected to give KANU, led by Gideon Moi, strong negotiation powers to enter into post-election agreements with other parties.
Targeting Rift Valley and Other Regions ¶
Salat noted that KANU has a plan to reduce the influence of Deputy President William Ruto in Rift Valley. The party is also targeting 5 Governors from Rift Valley, Western, Coast, and Northern Kenya.
According to Salat, their strategy includes weakening Ruto's United Republican Party (URP) and diminishing his political presence in Rift Valley.
We are bringing back KANU and we are looking to have at least 60 MPs and at least 5 Senators and an equal number of Governors. We have most of the Rift Valley constituencies, Marsabit, Isiolo, Moyale, North Eastern and parts of Coast in our plan. These areas have been receptive to us so far.
