Published on July 24, 2019, Malkia Strikers head coach Shailen Ramdoo has emphasized that the Olympic qualifiers will play a crucial role in determining the final squad for the All African Games in Morocco.

Following their runner-up finish in the African Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt, Ramdoo has prioritized the Olympic qualifiers, which will take place in Italy from August 2 to 4. The team will face World championships runners-up Italy, Netherlands, and Belgium in the qualifiers.

According to Ramdoo, the team will use the qualifiers as an opportunity to give younger players a chance to showcase their skills and generate a squad that will represent Kenya in Morocco. The Strikers will then jet directly to Morocco to defend their 2015 All African Games title from August 16 to 30.

“Everyone is available and it will be easier for us to choose players. We will be giving chances to younger players to play the qualifiers and through this we will be able to generate a squad that will play the All Africa Games,” Ramdoo said.

The team, under the guidance of Ramdoo, Japheth Munala, and David Lung’aho, is currently training at the Kasarani Indoor Arena after experiencing some difficulties in getting a suitable training venue.

“We are going to prepare for the qualifiers in Italy, we don’t want to go and learn from them, so we will just play our game,” Ramdoo told Citizen Digital.
