A discovery in the province of Salta, northwest Argentina, has uncovered the bodies of three Inca children, including a little girl, found frozen at a height of 6,739 meters.
The site has been a subject of interest since the mid-twentieth century, attracting many climbers. Research in the area was supported and funded by the National Geographic Society for over 50 years.
Under the direction of American anthropologist Johan Reinhard and Constanza Ceruti, a team of walkers and archaeologists from Peru and Argentina worked together to uncover the secrets hidden in the ice.
The mummified bodies are now on display at the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology of Salta.
